Four Benefits of Hemp That You Never Knew!

Brought to you by Colorado Hemp Services

Twenty Years ago, the legalization of Hemp across the board was but a foregone conclusion. A mere vision relegated to hippies and dreamers that as far as lawmakers were concerned would never see the light of day. One thing is for sure that when it comes to Hemp and CBD all bets are off as the health care industry continues to be taken by storm. We recently made a pilgrimage to the mecca of legalization Colorado to meet with area experts at Colorado Hemp Services and this is what we learned.

1. Industrial Hemp- in the 1930’s Poplar Mechanics Magazine published an article where it named Hemp to be the “Billion Dollar Crop” of the future.  This article claimed that Hemp could be used to make over 25,000 products. At the time, lobbyists for the forestry, oil and big pharmaceutical companies were not about to lose any ground to this up and coming wonder plant and the pressure was applied for prohibition.  Now, we all know that today Cannabidoil is being used as a topical pain killer and alternative miracle in treating seizures but what about it’s other uses? Let’s start with the outer stalk of the plant. The outer stalk needs to be separated from the plant via tenuous process called decortication which in- short means, beating it until it reveals its fibrous husk.  This husk, is super tough and durable and has for years been used to make rope, thread, boat sails, clothing and almost ANYTHING that cotton has traditionally bee used to make.

2. The Hurd or Shiv is the inner stalk and its associated value is no less amazing than its fibrous exterior. It has a soft wood like texture similar to balsa wood that can be developed into a tough composite with many construction applications like making bricks and blocks for homes and housing called Hempcrete, plasters or even rolled out to make large mats for industrial use. Despite weighing far less than traditional stone bricks Hempcrete is lighter and tougher than its predecessor and leaves a much smaller carbon footprint. The hurd can also be developed into home insulation, a welcome break from the toxic and itchy insulation used up until recently.

Did you know? Hemp paper versus its cousin of the wood variety lasts much longer and allows us to focus on reforestation and saving the environment as opposed to killing off our natural areas and the wildlife which is displaced annually.

3. Entire cars! Henry Ford made a vehicle once from hemp. He claimed that its body was stronger and lighter than steel. Additionally, all of the normal composite (plastic) pieces on the inside and outside could withstand hits with a sledgehammer which he demonstrated on video when it debuted. Even fuel could be theoretically replaced by a much cleaner running biofuel called Hemp Ethanol.

4. Hemp Seed- Hemp seed can inevitably be squeezed into various oils to make things like paint, varnish, super foods, topical ointments and medicines with many renowned health qualities. Hemp is allergen and Gluten Free, herbicide and pesticide free and contains all 21 Amino Acids!
